Navy seizes over 1,456kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in Negombo

The Navy seized a consignment of more than 1,456kg of smuggled Kendu leaves and a truck during a search operation in the Kudapaduwa area of Negombo on 20 July 2026.

The operation was carried out by personnel attached to SLNS Kelani of the Western Naval Command, acting on credible information. During the search, naval personnel inspected a suspicious truck in the Kudapaduwa coastal area and recovered the consignment, made ready for distribution.

The seized truck and the stock of Kendu leaves were handed over to the Katunayake Customs Preventive Office for onward legal proceedings.
