Suspect nabbed with cannabis mixed tobacco product in Kalmunai

The Navy, in coordination with the Police, arrested a suspect and seized over 30kg of the illicit tobacco substance known as "Mukku Thool" during a search operation in Kalmunai on 19 July 2026.

On receipt of information, naval personnel from SLNS Deegayu belonging to the Southeastern Naval Command, conducted the raid alongside the Kalmunai Police. The raiding team searched a suspicious local shop and an adjacent house, discovering the hidden illicit tobacco substance.

The suspect arrested during the operation was identified as a 61 year old resident of the Kalmunai area. Following the raid, both the individual and the seized tobacco stock were handed over to the Kalmunai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
