Naval officers update on Indian Ocean strategic dynamics

Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage (Retd) delivered a lecture on “Contemporary Global Scene: The Indian Ocean and Sri Lanka” to officers serving in the Eastern Naval Command on 16 August 2026.

The lecture was held at the Eastern Naval Command Wardroom at the invitation of Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage. Senior and junior officers serving in ships and establishments across the Eastern Naval Command, along with officer under trainees of the Naval and Maritime Academy, attended the session.

Admiral Prof. Colombage (Retd) discussed key geopolitical, economic and military developments shaping the international environment, with particular focus on their direct and indirect implications for the Indian Ocean Region and Sri Lanka. The session provided officers with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of contemporary developments relevant to maritime security and the country's national interests.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Commander Eastern Naval Area expressed his appreciation to Admiral Prof. Colombage (Retd) for sharing his knowledge and experience and presented a memento.
