Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana takes over command of Northern Naval Area

Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana assumed duties as the Commander Northern Naval Area at the Command Headquarters today, 04 August 2026.

Upon his arrival, the newly appointed Area Commander was received in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions. Subsequently, Commodore Buddhika Rupasinghe who oversaw the duties of Commander Northern Naval Area handed over the duties and responsibilities of the appointment to Rear Admiral Wijewardana.

In addition to the responsibilities of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Wijewardana is also discharging duties as Chief Hydrographer of the Sri Lanka Navy.
