Navy takes hold of smuggled spices in Baththalangunduwa
The Navy seized a consignment of dried ginger and cardamom husks, smuggled into the country, during a search operation in the Baththalangunduwa area of Kalpitiya on 23 August 2026.
The operation was conducted by personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya, under the Northwestern Naval Command, in the Sinnagunduwa coastal area of Baththalangunduwa. Accordingly, 13 suspicious sacks found in the area were inspected, leading to the recovery of 264kg of dried ginger and 69kg of cardamom husks.
Meanwhile, the seized consignment was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for further legal action.
