Navy emerges champion in Freedom 250 Baseball Series

The Sri Lanka Navy emerged as champions of the Men's Double Knockout Tournament at the Freedom 250 Baseball Series, co-hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Baseball Association. The final was played at the Japan–Sri Lanka Friendship Baseball Ground on 19 July 2026.

The tournament organised commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, began on 28 March and it ‍featured leading baseball clubs from across the country. Extending their unbeaten run, the Navy defeated the Army 14–11 in the final to clinch the title.

Able Seaman IBTM Wickramasinghe was named Best Batter and Player of the Tournement, while Ordinary Seaman ASM Gunawardana received the Most Valuable Player award.

Ms. Lee Ann Ross from the US Embassy, Director Sports of the Navy, Commodore Indika Edirisinghe and a group of officers from the Army and Navy were present on this occasion.
